Abstract

1450511 Grafted polyols EURANE EUROPEENNE DU POLYURETHANE SA 2 Jan 1975 [7 Jan 1974] 99/75 Heading C3G A graft polymer dispersion is produced by polymerization at a temperature of below 100‹ C. of a monomer selected from vinyl chloride, vinyl bromide, vinylidene chloride and vinylidene bromide in a polyol or polyol mixture containing from 0À1 to 3À0 moles of unsaturation per mole of polyol mixture in the presence of a free radical catalyst and the absence of a chain transfer agent. Examples are given in which (i) a mixture of a propylene oxide/trimethylolpropane adduct capped with ethylene oxide and reacted with maleic anhydride and a glycerine/propylene oxide adduct is grafted with a mixture of vinylidene chloride and (a) methyl methacrylate or ethyl acrylate or (b) methyl methacrylate and bis(betachloroethyl) vinyl phosphonate; (ii) a mixture of a propylene glycol/glycerol adduct reacted with propylene oxide, ethylene oxide and then maleic anhydride and an ethylene oxidecapped propylene oxide / glycerol / propylene glycol adduct is grafted with vinylidene chloride and (a) ethyl acrylate or methyl methacrylate or (b) a mixture of a monomer as in (a) with bis(2-chloroethyl)vinyl phosphonate; (iii) a propylene oxide/glycerol polyol is reacted with propylene glycol, propylene oxide, allyl glycidyl, ether and ethylene oxide or propylene oxide and grafted with vinyl chloride or with vinylidene chloride mixed with ethyl acrylate, methyl methacrylate or with ethyl acrylate and glycidyl methacrylate; (iv) a propylene oxide/ glycerolpolyol is reacted with maleic anhydride, or allyl glycidyl ether, and propylene oxide, and grafted with vinyl chloride or vinyl bromide.
