Abstract
1450501 Making dynamo-electric machines SIEMENS AG 1 July 1974 [29 June 1973] 29147/74 Heading B3A [Also in Division H2] A method of making a dynamo-electric machine comprises making an assembly of a wound stator 1, a housing part 5 constituting an end shield having a circular trough which accommodates the end turns 41 of the winding 4, spacer means, e.g. perforated foil 7, between the end turns and the housing part and a cylindrical member within and coaxial with the stator, introducing a settable material 2 into the assembly which acts as a mould and removing the cylindrical member after the material has set. An outer end shield part 61 also forms part of the assembly and it is secured to the stator 1 together with the end shield 5 by rivets 8. The cylindrical member seals the inner space of the assembly and simultaneously centres the shield 5 and shield part 61. The settable material is a casting resin and is introduced into the assembly in vacuo through apertures in the shield 5 and shield part 61. The member is a mandrel with an elastic surface, e.g. of silicone rubber, which presses the windings into the stator slots. When the resin has set, the mandrel is replaced by a rotor 3 complete with bearings 10 and an end shield 6 secured in position. Instead of the perforated foil 7, a fleece-like insert or plastics clasps may be used and an insulating layer may be sintered on to the inner surface of the end shields. The end shields 5, 6, may have provision for accommodating radially disposed cooling tubes (13), Fig. 2 (not shown), or electric components (14), Fig. 3 (not shown). They may also be provided with apertures (16), (17), Fig. 4 (not shown), into which the casting resin flows and on curing it anchors the shields against axial and rotary movement.
