Abstract

1450184 Automatic circuit breakers AIRPAX ELECTRONICS Inc 5 Oct 1973 [16 Feb 1973] 46663/73 Heading H1N In a multi-module circuit breaker providing simultaneous automatic breaking of the circuit breaker apparatuses of all modules but allowing independent manual operation of the circuit breaker apparatus of an individual module, each module has a trip lever 86 which trips the circuit breaker apparatus of that module under overload current conditions and causes movement of a camming member 94 to displace a cam follower 48 connected to a rotatable bar 32 which carries at its end an interlock assembly engaging a corresponding bar in the adjacent module and causing this corresponding bar to move and displace the trip lever of the adjacent module tripping it, but the arrangement being such that when the handle for manual operation of a module is in the "off" position the camming member 95 is not able to displace the cam follower 48 but is adjacent a cut-away part in the cam follower. The circuit breakers are tripped electromagnetically and are provided with a mesh-screen 26 over vent channels near the fixed contact position to prevent flames from passing through these channels when arcing takes place.
