Abstract
1448790 Coating metal NATIONAL STEEL CORP 26 April 1974 18273/74 Heading B2E Sheet metal stock for making containers is coated on at least one major surface with a lubricant substantially uniform film of a citric acid ester or substituted citric acid ester of a C 1-10 alcohol, which is present in an amount of about 0.05 to 1.0 gm per 62720 square inches of lubricated surface. The preferred ester is acetyl tributyl citrate. The metal sheet may be mild steel, aluminium, tinned steel, mild steel or tinned steel with chromium compound protective coatings or iron-tin alloy coated ferrous metal. The ester may be applied by electrostatic spray coating, or as an emulsion or solution by spraying or by roller. The lubricant-coated sheets may be further coated with varnishes, laquers or enamels of organic materials such as epoxy, phenolic, acrylic, vinyl, alkyd and polyurethane resins.
