Abstract

1448539 Rotary-scythe mower FLYMO SA 29 Nov 1974 51698/74 Heading A1F A rotary-scythe lawn mower has an output shaft carrying a cutter and a radially discharging blower wheel which supplies cooling air to the motor and generates an air cushion to support the mower. The housing has at least two separate openings, one of which communicates with a duct through which flows air for cooling the motor, while at least another of the openings communicates directly or through at least one inlet with the atmosphere. The housing comprises hood 1 and cover 9 and supports an electric motor 2 having a vertical shaft carrying blower wheel 3 and cutter 4. The hood I has an annular opening 5 with radial spokes connecting the hub 6 to the remainder of the hood 1 while the cover 9 has air inlets 10. Motor 2 is surrounded by a baffle 11 creating an air duct therebetween. Blower wheel 3 comprises a disc 7 upon which vanes 8 are provided, the vanes 8' having their inner ends nearer the axis of the drive shaft than the ones 8". Air is drawn into the housing through inlets 10 and while the major part of it is directed through opening 5 and under hood 1 to support the mower, a small proportion travels up over the motor and through the duct formed between baffle 11 and the motor 2, from which it passes through the opening in the hub 6 to the inner parts of the vanes 8 whence it is radially discharged with the air from the opening 5.
