1448332 Photosensitive synthetic resins MULLARD Ltd 8 Feb 1974 05846/74 Addition to 1330263 Heading C3B [Also in Division G2] A light-sensitive polymer (P) is (III) or a 1,2-propylene oxide, p-azidobenzoxy, or pnitrobenzoxy derivative thereof, where R<SP>1</SP> is hydroxypropylene, or the nucleus of a dihydric phenol free from functional groups other than p-azido benzoxy, p-nitrobenzoxy, or phenolic OH, n is 0-3, one X is N 3 and one X is NO 2 , or, in a heterogeneous M.W. distribution of such polymers, X in # 1 polymer is N 3 and X in #1 other polymer is NO 2 . (P) may be made by reacting, in a solvent, epoxy resin (I) where R is hydroxypropylene or the nucleus of a dihydric phenol free from functional groups other than phenolic OH, with a mixture of pazidobenzoic acid, or esterifiable derivative thereof, and a p-nitrobenzoic acid optionally o- or m-substituted with a C 1-4 alkyl, or esterifiable derivative thereof; the reaction temperature may be, e.g. 130-200‹ C. (I) may be similar, and made similarly, to (I) in the parent Specification, and the modes of sensitization and application and the uses of (P) are similar to those of compound (II) of the parent Specification. In (III), R<SP>1</SP> may have #1 terminal pazidobenzoxy or p-nitrobenzoxy group as the result of the reaction of at least one phenolic OH with (1) epichlorohydrin and then with (2) the above mixture of acids.
