Abstract

1448135 Optical code detector EASTMAN KODAK CO 21 Dec 1973 [2 Jan 1973] 59415/73 Heading G4M Articles such as film cartridges carrying an optical coding are carried on a conveyer past a reader. The reader carries a plurality of photocells 26, each responsive to a bit of the coding, which are coupled via amplifiers 28 and switches 30 to an AND gate. The switches have two positions arranged to supply a signal to the AND gate if the photo-cell detects a mark or if the photo-cell detects a space respectively and has a third position rendering the value of the bit immaterial. The AND gate is enabled by a flipflop set on detection of an article and the codes are examined during a small period T2. If a correct code is sensed the AND gate resets flip-flop B and a zero value is fed to a shift register. If an incorrect code is sensed a "1" is stored in the shift register to operate an eject air valve when the cartridge arrives at an eject position.
