Abstract

1448111 Drilling jigs W A CRABBE 30 Jan 1974 [30 Jan 1973] 4647/73 Heading B3C [Also in Division A5] A device for the fixation of bone fractures, comprises an adjustable clamp 10, a drilling jig forming part of the clamp for guiding a bit 52 for boring a hole 54 through two bone parts 24, 46, and a clamp arm 38, also being part of said clamp and removably attached thereto, having an arcuate section carrying a button 48 having a depression (50), Fig. 2 (not shown), for receiving the end of said bit, the arm 38 being replaceable by a similar arm (56), Fig. 3 (not shown), having a slot (64) instead of a button for locating a fastening element (66), Fig. 5 (not shown), on one end of hole 54 for engagement with a rod (68) passed through said hole. The clamp includes a substantially L-shaped tube 14 having a sleeve 16 at one end which is internally screw-threaded and receives a rotatable tubular shaft 18 for receiving said bit, the shaft being axially movable with respect to the sleeve on rotation of said shaft about its axis. The shaft carries a plurality of pins 28 having sharp ends 30 for engaging bone part 24. The pins are mounted on a rotatable disc 26. Slots (40), (58) are provided in arms 38, (56) respectively for the passage therethrough of a screwthreaded shaft 34 on that end of tube 14 remote from sleeve 16, a wing nut 42 securing said arms in position. The device may be made of stainless steel, and is especially adapted for the treatment of fractures of the femoral neck.
