Abstract

1447981 Microfiche copying GROOVE CONSULTING CO Ltd and K E GROVES 22 Nov 1973 [22 Aug 1972] 39007/72 Heading H4F Successive frames of an information bearing microfiche are scanned to produce corresponding video signals which are reproduced as optical images and synchronously recorded on corresponding frames of a second unexposed microfiche means being provided for interrupting the scanning of selected frames of the second microfiche and for recording on the latter visual information from a source other than the first microfiche. As shown in Fig. 2, an X, Y film transporter mechanism 10 positions successive frames (such as frames 2, Fig. 1) of a microfiche 12 for scanning by a flying-spot CRT 14 to produce video signals which are displayed as corresponding optical images on a display CRT 20 and optically projected via semi-silvered mirror 23 and lens 22 on to spatially corresponding frames on an unexposed microfiche 13 positioned by X, Y film transporter 11 operating synchronously with mechanism 10. A 5000 live scan resolution may be used. When it is required to change the information contained in a particular frame (such as frame 3, Fig. 1) the image of such frame on CRT 20 is obturated (or the corresponding video interrupted) and replaced by desired information such as by exposure to the optical image of a document &c. on a table 24. Alternatively, the new desired information may comprise a source of video signals, e.g. a computer. The output from multiplier 18 may be stored on a magnetic disc. For coloured microfiche a dichroic block and three photo multipliers 18 are provided for generating component colour signals and three CRTs 20 with different colour phosphors and a dichroic combining optics are provided for reproduction.
