Abstract

1447758 Utilizing wave energy J R BICHARD 18 Oct 1973 [29 Sept 1972] 45018/72 Heading F1S A device for deriving power from the sea, which is suspended from a buoyant body (not shown) and submerged in the sea, comprises a hub, 10, Fig. 1 or 21, Fig. 3, rods 12 radiating from the hub and a flap or vane 13 similarly mounted through an edge thereof on each rod for swivelling movement between limits about the rod to present a different one of its two major surfaces at an acute angle to the horizontal to the thrust of the water on relative movement upwards and downwards between the device and the water in the direction of suspension of the device whereby the device rotates unidirectionally. In Fig. 3 an annular frame of the device is indicated at 20. A watertight casing 23 is suspended from the buoyant body (not shown) by two cables 24, 25. Within the casing 23 is a generator 27. In a modification (not shown) the hub is connected to a flexible drive rod which extends through a flexible metal sheath screwed to the underside of a buoy. In a further modification there is a rigid coupling between the buoyant body and the device
