Abstract
1447500 Polymers containing oxazolidone and isocyanurate rings HITACHI Ltd 23 Nov 1973 [29 Nov 1972] 54573/73 Heading C3B A resin composition comprising one equivalent of an at least di-epoxide (I) and at least 1À5 equivalents of a polyisocyanate (II) is heated at 80 C. or above in the presence of 0À1-10% by wt. (of I+II) of a catalyst (III) for the formation of isocyanurate and oxazolidene rings. The product is a thermosetting resin containing as a recurring unit 2 or more isocyanurate rings each connected through an isocyanate residue and an oxazolidone ring connected at one side through an isocyanate residue to an isocyanurate having at the other side an epoxy residue. I may be a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A or an epoxy novolac resin. II may be 4,4<SP>1</SP>-diphenylmethane diisocyanate, 2,4-tolylene diisocyanate or naphthalene-1,5- diisocyanate. III may be N-methylmorpholine, 2 - phenylimidazole, 1 - cyanoethyl - 2 - phenylimidazole or 2,4 - diamino - 6 - (2<SP>1</SP> - undecylimidazolyl-1<SP>1</SP>-)ethyl-5-triazine. Uses.-Electrical insulation at high temperatures.
