Abstract

1446361 Hair cutters A N SPANEL 7 Jan 1974 [5 Jan 1973] 00634/74 Heading A4V [Also in Division B4] A hair cutter 10 to be used like a razor in co-operation with a plurality of hair-dividing elements 16 comprises a blade supporting means for a double-edged blade 20, mounting means for rotatably supporting said blade-supporting means so that one or the other of the blade-edges can be selected for hair-cutting and means for moving the selected-edge of the blade relative to the elements 16 into a desired hair-cutting position. As shown, Fig. 1; 5 the blade 20 and a table 22, to which the blade 20 is fixed by means of a clamp 24, can be rotated about Y-Y axis, whereas the sub-assembly of Fig. 5, which is supported on a frame 38 having a slot 52 slideably engaging therein a block 50 made of Nylon, the block being pivotally mounted on a crank arm 48, as a whole is rotatable about axis X-X. Projections U2 in the housing 12 are slidably received within grooves 40 in the frame 38 and a vertical movement of the frame along with the subassembly is achieved by rotating a lever 46 and a crank arm 48, the lever having a detent 56, which faces the outer face of the back wall of the housing 12, to engage with any of indexing recesses 54 to hold the sub-assembly in a desired cutting position. The sub-assembly of Fig. 5 can be rotated about X-X axis only when a rectangular end portion 62, which is slideably received within a slot 64, is within an enlarged cylindrical opening 65 i.e. When the sub-assembly along with the frame 38 is in its uppermost position in the housing. Ends of cantilever springs 28 engage V-shaped notches in the table 22 to prevent the latter's accidental rotation about Y-Y axis. In another embodiment, Fig. 12 (not shown), the provision for adjusting cutting positions of the blade 20 relative to the apexes of the elements 16 include a gear (96), which is attached to a stub-shaft (97) journalled in the housing 12, meshes with a gear rack (110). In the embodiment of Figs. 17-19, Figs. 17, 18 (not shown), a stub-shaft 220 extends outwardly beyond a bearing block 36 to receive at an outer end a segmental gear 222 which has a rectangular hubsection 224 adapted to slideably engage a slot 64 in the end-wall of the housing. When the frame 94 along with a blade-assembly is in its upper most position in the housing, a driving gear 242 engages the seal 222, and a knob 244 may be rotated in any direction through 180 degrees to interchange the positions of the blade-edges. The knob 244 has a projection 246 to engage indentations 248. In another embodiment, Figs. 13-16 (not shown), the blade 20 is rotatable only in its own plane about a central axis perpendicular to the plane of the blade and only when the blade assembly along with a frame (138) is in its uppermost position in the housing when a segmental driving gear (168) engages a gear (146) attached to the table (22). A hub portion (170) and a block (150) slideably fit slots (172) and (162) respectively. The hub (170) is secured to a screw (155) by a pin so that when the level (134), which projects out of the housing through a slot (136), is turned about the screw(155), the latter rotates but without causing rotation of a level (46) and its associated crank arm (48). In another embodiment Figs. 20-22 (not shown), a driving gear (288) is rotatably fixed to the housing and a segmental gear (286), attached to a blade assembly, engages the driving gear (288) when the frame (258) is in its uppermost position in the housing. The vertical movement of the frame (258) is caused by turning a wheel (276) thereby causing a lateral movement of a carriage (272) along a threaded member (274), the carriage (272) carrying a pin (282) slideably engaged in an inclined slot (284) in the frame (258). In some of the embodiments, the housing has a detachable transparent cover 14.
