Abstract
1446225 Atomizers DECAFIX Ltd 21 Oct 1974 [26 Oct 1973] 49871/73 Addition to 1366890 Heading F4T An atomizer for fuel oil comprises a convergent annular chamber 19, a coaxial inner convergent gas nozzle chamber 17 and a coaxial rigid annular deflector 18, which has a gas bleed disc 22 leading to a further deflector 21, which deflects a gas stream across the outer face of the first deflector. In operation, compressed air is fed through passages 13 to chamber 17 and is emitted at sonic velocity along the outer surface of deflector 18 where it increases to supersonic velocity. When the gas approaches the curved portion of deflector 18 the pressure increases and the velocity decreases to thus produce shock waves. Liquid to be atomized is fed through passages 12 to chamber 19 and thence as a film into the gas emitted from chamber 17. Gas is also fed through passages 23, 22, 24, into annular space 25 and thence between deflectors 18, 21, so as to prevent build-up of carbon on the face of deflector 18.
