Abstract
1446048 Yarn tensioning devices O ZOLLINGER 4 Oct 1973 [16 Oct. 1972 11 June 1973 23 July 1973] 46506/73 Headings DID and D1F A yarn tensioner comprises a housing with a yarn passage therethrough which includes a restricted opening surrounded by a seat e.g. 134 which has a smooth convex arcuate surface on which a spherical element rests, the spherical element being of such a size that when no yarn passes through the device it rests on the seat out of contact with the passage walls and the passage diameter at least adjacent the seat being such that lateral movement of the spherical element is substantially prevented. Threading up can be preformed by an air jet, Fig. 3, which elevates the ball and entrains the yarn end. Alternatively and elongate threading up tool may be employed. More than one spherical element may be employed and an additional large one may be situated at the open end of the device with a retaining member 474 Fig. 6. An alternative smaller retaining member may be employed when the large 'spherical element is not used, Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). The seat can be formed as an insert and a wear resistant ring can be fitted at the mouth of the device, these parts being suitably made of ceramic material e.g. aluminium oxide. Alternatively the entire housing may be made of this material. The housing may also be made of transparent plastics material. The spherical element is suitably made of stainless steel. The interior of the housing may be slightly flared.
