A system for attaching two screw elements consists of a torque wrench, a fastener element 22 comprising a pin 34 and a collar 40, and an interlinking element 23. The interlinking element and the collar have a plurality of blades for engagement by an anchor means 152 and a driver socket 154, respectively. In the preferred embodiment, Fig. 12, the collar has a nose 240 that projects into the interlinking element and is spaced radially therefrom. This allows at least 3 threads to be unaffected by compressive loading at the engaging surfaces of the element and the collar. The element may be integral with the workpiece, it may fit into a recess in the workpiece or may have internal splines that engage splines on the pin to prevent rotation therebetween. The torque wrench has a reciprocal piston 132 that operates a lever arm 145 that in turn rotates a drive-shaft 160. The lever arm can rotate the shaft 160 in either direction by the suitable selective engagement of one of selector rings 167, 168 with drive-ring 161. The interengaging teeth allow ratcheting to be effected. A trigger 71 and spool 72 control starting of the motor 80 and a regulating valve 64 controls the torque transmitted by the motor. The direction of movement of the piston is controlled by a selector valve 78, Fig. 5, which can direct fluid flow to either of ports 83, 84. Pilot valves 108, 109 are engageable by lever arm 145 and the valves are also in circuit with the selector valve to control the positioning of slide 92 and thus the flow of fluid to port 83 or 84.
