Abstract

1445444 Filtering molten metal from slag GRANGES ESSEM AB 13 Nov 1973 52720/ 73 Heading BID [Also in Divisions C7 and F4] Metal is recovered from skimmed slag by transferring the slag to a sieve and heating the slag to at least the melting point of the metal and conducting the molten metal away through the bottom of the sieve and removing the residual material from the sieve. The sieve may be in the form of a trough 20 which may float on the surface of an underlying bath of the molten metal 11 contained in furnace 10 insulated from the surrounding atmosphere so that the molten metal which may be zinc, aluminium or alloys thereof flows from the slag into the pawl of molten metal.
