Abstract

1445100 Optical reader conveying system PLESSEY CO Ltd 18 Dec 1973 [4 April 1973] 01929/74 Divided out of 1445098 Heading G4M An optical reading system, e.g. for labels or articles such as luggage has a main conveyer belt tilted transverse to its direction of movement and two spaced subsidiary belts the major surfaces of which are at right angles to the major surface of the main belt. Between the subsidiary belts is arranged a reading system. Articles have their label carrying surface resting on the subsidiary belts and the space between the belts may contain small supporting rollers, a low friction material, a transparent belt or a narrow supporting belt. The main belt may have lateral ribs preventing round articles from rolling or fins reducing the amount of extraneous light in the reading area. The main belt may be vibrated to cause articles to slide into contact with the subsidiary belts. The reader may have a cover reducing ambient light levels and a hand operated reader may be used for certain articles. The belts may feed two unloading shoots.
