Abstract
1444892 Moulding fibrous concrete THYSSEN (GREAT BRITAIN) Ltd 17 Oct 1973 [2 Nov 1972] 50643/72 Heading B5A A mixture including fibrous material, powdered cement and water is placed in a mould 13 (Fig. 1) through an opening 20 which is then closed by a cover 21, and when the mixture has partially set, one or more elongate elements 27-29 are inserted through mould apertures to compress the concrete. The elements 27-29 are forced into mould portions whose transverse dimensions are small relative to their lengths, and the elements slide along the mould walls in guides 35, 36 (Fig. 6). As described for moulding a window frame and sill upside down, the mould comprises two parts 10-12 and 13-15 bolted or screwed together for easy dismantling, while the cover 21 is held by screw clamps 25, 26. The fibrous material is selected from glass, steel, asbestos, natural or synthetic fibres, and the mixture can also include quartz, silver or silica sand, fly ash, rubber/ latex emulsion in water, and an accelerator. When the mixture is fed into the mould, the cover 21 is partially clamped down to reduce air pockets, and when the mixture has partially set, the elongate elements 27-29 (and others not shown) are forced into the mould while the cover 21 is fully tightened down to impress a core 24. The mould is dismantled for article removal. The elements 27-29 can be arcuate.
