Abstract
1444763 Electrostatic transducers UNIROYAL Ltd 5 Sept 1973 [8 Sept 1972] 41782/73 Heading H4J A transducer, such as a loud-speaker, headphone, microphone or vibration pick-up, includes a conductive layer diaphragm 17, 18 mounted between a pair of apertured electret stators 10, 11 carrying conductive layers 10b, 11b, the distance between the diaphragm and each stator being equal to the thickness of the electret multiplied by its dielectric constant. The diaphragm has two aluminium coated 17a, 17b polyethylene terephthalate films 18a, 18b heat shrunk on to a metal coated, vented frame 20 cemented between frames 19, 21 in turn cemented to polycarbonate electrets 10, 11 with silver coatings 10b, 11b. Clamping screws 25, 31 secure stator terminals 27, 33 and the diaphragm terminal is secured by a screw 31a in the frame 20 in cut-outs in the electrets which are polarized after assembly by connecting -5 kv to the diaphragm and earthing the stators. A pair of assemblies operate in push-pull (Fig. 8) with inputs coupled by transformer windings 41, 42.
