Abstract

1444392 Disc brakes; friction pad retaining clips therefor GIRLING Ltd 25 April 1974 [25 May 1973] 25285/73 Heading F2E [Also in Divisions E1-E2] A friction pad retaining clip for a spot-type disc brake comprises a substantially U-shaped clip 20 having two legs 22, 24 joined by a shank portion 26 and resiliently inclined towards each other. In use with the disc brake as shown the legs 22, 24 are sprung apart and are inserted in aligned bores in side portions 6, 8 of a caliper 2 and in bores in friction pads 12, 14 on opposite sides of a disc 4; the resilience of the legs 22, 24 helps hold the clip 20 in place in the caliper 2. As shown the clip 20 is utilized in an "opposed piston" disc brake. The legs 22, 24 are of circular cross-section and are formed with grooves 28 of which the length d is substantially equal to the length e of the bores in the side portion 8 of caliper 2. The base surface of the groove may be planar or convex. To aid insertion the legs 22, 24 may be tapered and the shank portion 26 may be arcuate to sit on a part of the caliper 2 which accommodates a piston.
