Abstract
1443221 Valves MEDAC GES FUR KLINISCHE SPEZIALPBAPAKATE mbH 20 Nov 1973 53787/73 Heading F2V [Also in Division A5] An artificial aortic or pulmonary heart valve comprises three flexible pockets 2 mounted within a flexible sewing ring 1. When the valve is open the pockets lie closed against the inside of the ring but on reversal of flow the pockets open and contact each other thus preventing back flow. The surface of an open pocket, were it not to contact the other pockets, would be ellipsoidal in shape. The pockets are constructed from a highly flexible material with a high flexural fatigue strength such as a woven polyester coated with silicon rubber to prevent blood coagulation. The sewing ring can be made from a "Dacron" (Registered Trade Mark) woven material.
