Abstract

1442843 Sliding windows SOLVAY & CIE 15 Nov 1973 [16 Nov 1972] 53072/73 Heading E1J A horizontally sliding window comprises two panels 1, 2 slidable in a casing which has an upper cross-bar 3 with a ridge 10 and provided with leak-proof gaskets 4, 5, 6, 7, 11, 14, 15. When the window is closed the gaskets 4, 5 are in contact with the undercut ridge 10, the gaskets 6, 7 close the central gap between the panels and the gaskets 14, 15, which act as extensions of gaskets 6, 7, contact gasket 11 which is attached transversely to ridge 10. When the window is to be opened the panel is first lifted by handle means causing it to tilt away from the vertical due to the angled strips 18, 19, 20, 21 acting on the fixed guides 26, 27 and break contact between the various gaskets; this allows the panel to slide freely. On releasing the panel tilts back into position and the gaskets resume contact.
