1442778 Gear-pumps and motors ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN AG 12 Oct 1973 [12 Oct 1972] 47750/73 Heading F1F In an hydraulic gear-pump or motor having meshing gears 1, 2 with involute teeth, the highpressure and low-pressure zones 4, 3 encroach upon the intermesh zone DE to the extent that the length of the intermeshing zone which is out of communication with both high-pressure and low-pressure zones, i.e. EG, is equal to the base circle pitch of the gear teeth. This avoids compression of the fluid trapped in the space 6 between the meshing teeth whilst maintaining a seal between high and low-pressure zones, and reduces noise. To form accurately defined high and low-pressure zones, a blind bore 5 may be drilled in one or both side plates of the housing in one or both zones. The bore(s) are located to touch the root circle of one or both gears. The gears may be externally meshing or internally meshing, Fig. 5 (not shown).
