Abstract
1442621 Grommets UNITED-CARR Ltd 4 July 1974 [30 July 1973] 36195/73 Heading F2H [Also in Divisions E1-E2] A grommet 10 forming part of a stud-andsocket fastener for securing together two apertured panels 12, 13 comprises a hollow shank 22, resiliently compressible in length, with an end flange 15; which shank in use extends through an aperture 14 in the panel 13 so that the flange 15 bears against one side of the panel and resilient cams 23, 24 on the shank engage the other side to retain the grommet in the aperture, the flange 15 being resilient to accommodate various panel thicknesses. The stud 11 has a head 36 at one end and transverse lugs 37, (38) at the other end of its shank 35, and is held captive in the panel 12 by a washer 39 retained on the shank 35 by a rib (not shown). The axial slot 16 through the grommet is shaped to allow free passage of the stud shank and lugs. Cutouts 30 in the grommet shank 22 form flexible webs 31, 32 at the free end of the shank. Recesses 27, 28 in the webs 31, 32 form seats for the lugs 37, (38) of the stud 11 in its locked position. The flange 15 is rectangular and has ribs 19, 20 on its underside to allow resilient engagement with the panel 13. A rectangular boss 21 of the grommet fits the corresponding aperture 14. The grommet, stud, and washer are all of injection moulded plastics, e.g. an acetal resin.
