Abstract
1442659 Tunnel kiln L JUNGFER [trading as AKKUMULATORENFABRIK DR LEOPOLD JUNGFER] 9 Oct 1973 [29 Nov 1972] 46974/73 Heading F4B A sintered web of plastics powder for the manufacture of separators for accumulator batteries is provided on an endless steel belt 2. The upper run of the belt with the powder S, Fig. 2, thereon, for sintering is passed through a tunnel kiln 1 wherein heating is by hot air. A hot air circulation system comprises a blower 6, Fig. 1, a heat exchanger 4 heated by an oil burner 5, and circulation ducts 7, 8. Duct 7 supplies hot air distributor pipe 9 and intake ducts 11 to the kiln. Within the kiln the hot air flows through sections 21 of the space delimited, laterally and at the bottom, by the interior boundary of the lower part of the kiln, and at the top, directly by the belt. The flow is from the intake ducts 11 to outlet ducts 12 being guided by deflector plates 19, 20, Fig. 2. The air then passes via a return air collector pipe 10, Fig. 1, to the duct 8. The hot air circulating below the belt is arranged to be at a slightly higher pressure than the gases above the belt thereby preventing harmful gases above the belt from passing downwardly around the belt edges and contaminating the circulating hot air. Because of the over-pressure below the belt, some hot air escapes from beneath the belt. This is drawn off, together with fumes, through hoods 24, Fig. 2. To make good the air lost from the hot air circulating system, outside air is taken into the system through duct 13, Fig. 1. This is preheated at 14 by combustion gas 5a from the oil-burner 5. To ensure a uniform temperature across the conveyer belt, flow-controlling obstacles (27), Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), are inserted in hot air flow channels 26, Fig. 2. Support rollers 22, Fig. 2, are provided for the belt.
