Abstract
1442110 Drying hydrocarbons BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 4 Sept 1974 [20 Sept 1973] 38636/74 Heading C5E A liquid water phase is separated from an emulsion of water in hydrocarbon oil by passing an inert gas (e.g. air, nitrogen or hydrogen) through the hydrocarbon at 0-60‹ C. A gas oil 1, boiling at 164-356‹ C. and containing 800 p.p.m. water is treated in a column 4 by passing a gas stream 17 through the column and separated water is removed at 22, the treated oil 6 is passed through a second column 9 in which it is dried by a dry gas stream 14 passed into the bottom of the column; the columns 4 and 9 can be packed.
