Abstract

1441993 Cutting apparatus HENRY SIMON Ltd 19 Dec 1974 [2 Jan 1974 9 April 1974] 47/74 and 15679/74 Heading B4B A device for cutting a moving sheet of material comprises a first cutting means 12 having a pair of knife blades 16 spaced apart for the continuous passage therebetween of the sheet and a second cutting means 10 having a single knife blade, one of the cutting means being movable to cause the single blade and alternate ones of the pair of blades to be engaged in cutting relationship such that the sheet is severed and the leading edge of the severed sheet is deflected past the second cutting means on one side thereof whilst the trailing edge passes the second means of the other side thereof. As shown in Fig. 1, the first cutting means 12 is formed by an assembly having a pair of members 13, 14 defining a slot 15 through which the material passes and is adapted to oscillate in order to effect cutting; alternatively the assembly may be stationary, and the blade (11b), Fig. 6 (not shown), mounted for oscillation. In other modifications, the two cutting blades (16a) may be mounted on separate members each adapted to, alternately oscillate, Fig. 5 (not shown), or reciprocate, Fig. 7 (not shown).
