Abstract
1441951 Ultrasonic atomizers MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 18 July 1973 [31 July 1972] 34157/73 Heading F4T [Also in Divisions G3 and H3] In a system for driving an ultrasonic transducer at resonance using an oscillator, the oscillator output is switchable between two levels, e.g. increased upon starting to allow the transducer to reach a nominal operating level. As shown, a magnetostrietive or piezoelectric transducer 10 is used to atomize a liquid fuel in an air/fuel burner, the drive to the transducer being automatically and rectroactively controlled (see Division G3) to maintain the oscillations of the transducer at a required value. The burner is provided with an ignition electrode 202. The liquid supply may be stopped if the transducer drive is below a preset amount, and the atomizer turned off if the air flow, as detected photoelectrically, stops. The amplitude of oscillation of the transducer may be varied in accordance with the temperature of the fuel as measured by a thermistor 80, and may be increased, upon starting, for a preset time.
