Abstract

1441888 Hydroplane craft A R PARKER 16 Nov 1974 [10 May 1974] 20697/74 Heading B7A A jet-propelled hydrofoil has two rearward planing points P located symmetrically with respect to the longitudinal axis of the body, and a controllable elevator 11 located forwardly of the centre of gravity for adjusting the aerodynamic lift of the body and its pitch angle relative to the water surface when the craft is planing. The elevator can be divided into vanes 11, Fig. 1, not shown, on each side of the longitudinal axis of the craft, and can be automaticcally or manually controllable in unison or independently. The craft also has a deflector vane 12 in the outlet of the jet engine, and a forward planing surface 4 and aft planing surfaces on the stub keels 6. In Fig. 3, not shown, wings 2 are set lower in the body with the keels 6 set near the wing tips. In addition the body has two forward retractable planing surfaces (14), and aft parachute housings (15).
