Abstract
1441881 Refrigerators PRESTCOLD Ltd 21 Feb 1975 [14 Feb 1974] 6822/74 Heading F4H [Also in Division F1] In a gas compressor, e.g. in a refrigeration circuit, comprising a pump 1 driven by an electric motor 2, the windings of the motor are cooled by diverting part of the gas flow upstream of the pump through a passage 4 containing a solenoid valve 5 which is controlled in dependence on the temperature of the windings. As shown, the passage 4 is formed in the casing of the pump/motor unit and diverts part of the main gas flow from a point A, via the solenoid valve 5 and the windings of the motor 2, back to a point B immediately upstream of the pump inlet. An electronic controller 6 for the valve 5 includes in its circuit a number of thermistors located at different positions in the motor windings, the arrangement being such that when a fan 3 fails to maintain the windings below a predetermined temperature, the controller 6 opens the valve 5.
