Abstract

1441690 Cleaning pads; toilet &c sheets &c SCOTT PAPER CO 3 Oct 1974 42976/74 Headings A4F and A4N [Also in Division D2] A flushable, pre-moistened, wiper suitable for cleaning various parts of the body comprises a web of soft, flexible, absorbent fibrous material including at least 50 wt. per cent of fibrous material of cellulosic fibres of a length less than “ inch, said web being provided with a first water-insoluble adhesive distribution over one surface and extending at least partially through the thickness of the web, and with a second water-insoluble adhesive distribution over the other surface in a pattern of discrete islands separated by corridor regions, the islands covering more than 50% of the surface area and extending at least partially through the thickness of the web, and having a moisture content of between 100 and 350 wt. per cent based on the dry weight of the bonded web. The web may be made of wood pulp fibres or cotton linters but may also include rayon, polyester, polyamide, and polyamine fibres. The first water-insoluble adhesive distribution may be effected by wet-end addition of an appropriate adhesive, or by spraying, and the second water-insoluble adhesive distribution may be effected by a printing process. The adhesive may be an acrylic latex. The moist component may include alcohol, glycerine, propylene glycol, lanolin, fungicides, bacteriscides, and bacteriostats. The wiper may be creped or embossed.
