Abstract

1441405 Musical box movements LESNEY PRODUCTS & CO Ltd 9 Aug 1974 [22 Aug 1973] 39873/73 Heading G5J The reed comb 2 of a musical box movement is made by chemical machining. A sheet of phosphor bronze, pre-tempered spring or other steel or beryllium copper alloy is photo-etched using carefully aligned negatives of the comb. Holes 16 and slots 17 may be etched at the same time so that the comb may be slid under the lips of pillars 15 until pins 14 engage in holes 16. The comb may alternatively be held in place by a screw or an H-shaped slot engaging a barbed projection on the platform 7, Fig. 3 (not shown). The drum 3 comprises a series of steps, the projections on each step being radially no larger than the preceding step to permit simple injection moulding or die-casting. The drum may be made in three 120 degree segments in a diesplit mould and subsequently secured together.
