Abstract
1441401 Piezoelectric igniter EWARTS Ltd 30 Jan 1974 [2 March 1973] 10401/73 Heading F4F [Also in Division H2] A combination of a gas tap and a piezoelectric igniter comprises a spindle of two parts 14, 16 which are axially fixed together but relatively rotatable such that for initial rotation from the valve-closed position, both rotate together until the valve-open position and then only the part 16 rotates with a projecting trigger 30 to move a spring-biased hammer 44 away from a piezoelectric anvil 42 until the trigger 30 passes a crank 50 to release the hammer and create a spark at the outlet of the tap. The two parts are initially held for rotation together by a torsion spring 31 until the valve-open position when a lug 23 comes against an abutment 25. After ignition and release of the spindle, the part 16 rotates under the action of the spring 31 and the trigger 30 passes the crank 50 by displacing the pivot pin 52 in the slot 54.
