Abstract
1441234 Moulding fibres TAC CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS Ltd 23 May 1975 [16 March 1974] 11804/74 Heading B5A [Also in Division D2] A method of utilizing paper crumble (i.e. the dewatered tailings from papermaking machines, which consist of cellulosic fibres, mineral additives, and optionally other fibrous material, and water) comprises dispersing it in an aqueous slurry of a cementitious binder, and forming an article from the dispersion. The dispersion may be formed into a dough which is extruded to form an elongate article. The slurry may also contain inorganic fibres, e.g. asbestos, glass, mineral wool fibres, and/or organic fibres, e.g. rayon, nylon, and/or fillers, e.g. diatomite perlite, clay, a pigment or vermiculite. In an example, paper crumble was added to a dispersion containing ordinary portland cement and perlite, the resulting dispersion was formed into a dough, and the latter was extruded to produce an elongate member, which was subsequently cured.
