Abstract

1441241 Denitrifying nitrate and nitritecontaining effluents DU FONT OF CANADA Ltd 31 July 1973 [31 July 1972] 03326/76 Divided out of 1440171 Heading C1C Aqueous effluents containing nitrate and/or nitrite ions or matter capable of forming the said ions under aerobic conditions are denitrified, in the presence of sufficient carbonaceous matter to permit complete denitrification, by passing the effluent into an anaerobic zone containing denitrifying bacteria, then to an aerobic zone from which a portion of the denitrifying bacteria and effluent is recycled to the anaerobic zone at a rate at least as high as the introduction of effluent into the anaerobic zone. The remaining effluent in the aerobic zone is passed to a clarifier from which the clarified denitrified effluent is removed and sludge recycled to the anaerobic zone.
