Abstract

1440511 Brake cylinders BENDIX WESTINGHOUSE Ltd 11 March 1974 [27 March 1973] 14575/73 Heading F2F A brake actuator with a first piston 4 separating a pressurable chamber from a vented chamber of a cylinder 2 and a second piston 15 separating a pressurable chamber from a vented chamber of a cylinder 3 and being in tandem with piston 4, the pistons being responsive in opposite senses to respective pressures has a pipe 23 connecting the cylinders so that one vented chamber can breathe into the other vented chamber, cylinder 3 having an end plate 17 mounted thereto by a union including a nylon ring 21 having slots providing communication between pipe 23 and the chamber between piston 15 and the end plate. Cylinder 3 provides a service brake and cylinder 2 a spring applied fluid pressure released parking brake which can when pressure fails be released by means of a bolt 12.
