Abstract
1440452 Steering by differential braking KOMATSU SEISAKUSHO KK 31 May 1973 [31 May 1972 (2)] 04812/76 Divided out of 1440451 Heading B7H In a brake steering mechanism for a manually and remotely controllable tractor or bulldozer having manual levers 1 on the right and left sides of the vehicle, movement of a lever 1 in the direction indicated causes disengagement of a clutch via lever 4 to disengage the drive to the associated side of the vehicle, and causes spring loaded rod 18 to move into contact with piston 17 to seal a vent passage 16 therein and to transmit the manual force to a brake lever 20. Sealing of the vent 16 allows hydraulic pressure fluid delivered through line 21 to supplement the manual force, whereby braking is effected on one side to cause the vehicle to turn. Remote operation is effected by remotely operating a change-over valve to cause compressed air to be delivered to cylinder 5 to move the lever 1 in the appropriate direction. Moreover, compressed air is delivered through port 30 of pressure-control valve 22 to reduce the spring loading on'valve closure member 25 and thereby cause the valve to reduce the pressure of the hydraulic fluid acting on piston 17 so that, with compressed air supplied to a cylinder 12, the braking is gradual and the vehicle is not turned too quickly. However, compressed air delivery to the cylinder 12 may be cut off so that the force of spring 14 supplements the force exerted by the hydraulic fluid and causes more rapid turning of the vehicle.
