Abstract

1440078 Gas burners WELDEX AG 7 Sept 1973 [7 Sept 1972] 41627/72 Heading F4T Apparatus for gas heating comprises a chamber 1 having a radiant face comprising a permeable woven web 3 of inorganic fibrous refractory material reinforced by refractory metal fibres interwoven therewith, means 8 for mixing oxygen-containing gas with fuel gas, means 5 for distributing the gaseous mixture so formed into the chamber 1, and means 6, 7 for feeding oxygen-containing gas under pressure to the mixing means 8. The inorganic fibrous material may be asbestos, calcium silicate, aluminium silicate, silica, glass fibre, rock slag or mineral wool, and the reinforcing metal may be nickel, chromium, molybdenum, tungsten or alloys of these. The web may be supported by metal wires or gauze. The radiant surface may be planar concave for heating the outside of cylindrical articles, or cylindrically convex for heating the inside of pipes. The web 3 may form an inner facing for one wall of chamber 1 and an outer facing of metal wire mesh 4, e.g. stainless steel or nickel alloy, may be separated by a 4-12 mm. gap from the web, primary combustion occuring at the web 3 and secondary combustion at the mesh 4.
