Abstract

1338452 Strip reinforced plastics laminates FLEXIPANE Ltd and M GREENGRASS 16 May 1972 [5 July 1971] 31327/71 Heading B5N A reinforced flexible plastics sheeting comprises two component sheets 1 and 2 of flexible plastics material, e.g. polyethylene secured one over the other with elongated strips 3 in the form of tapes or cords sandwiched therebetween, the elongated strips being retained in channels 4 formed between the sheets with freedom for movement along the strip lengths. The sheeting may be made by feeding the component sheets and the strips in the required sandwich formation between a pair of rollers 5 and 6 and applying heat, e.g. by heating means 7, the regions occupied by the strips being maintained cool, e.g. by shielding means 8. The strips, which may be of cotton, nylon, fabric or polyvinyl chloride may be in a single direction parallel formation; alternatively, they may be in the form of a grid of mutually traversing strips or in the form of a continuous zig-zag. The component sheets 1 and 2 may each comprise two sub-component sheets with a reinforcement, e.g. a mesh or a plurality of single strands of reinforcing material immovably sandwiched therebetween. The material of the invention may be used for temporary covering work, e.g. on building sites.
