Abstract
1338084 Clock; escapements MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC WORKS Ltd 27 Oct 1970 [15 Nov 1969 18 Nov 1969 21 Nov 1969] 50889/70 Heading G3T A magnetic escapement comprises an escape wheel 3 and an oscillator 1, the coupled parts of the wheel and oscillator having substantially parallel directions of motion and the escape wheel being coupled to a drive-transmitting spring 11. The escape wheel is fixed to a shaft 6 and is driven by a rotor 4 via the spring 11. The rotor is loosely mounted on the shaft 6 which also carries a worm 22 driving a gear train 23, 24. A fixed coil assembly 5 for driving the rotor 4 comprises a detecting coil 27 and a tapped driving coil 28, see Fig. 1B. The coil circuit comprises a driving transistor 29, the base current of which is stabilized by means of a compensating transistor 30 and a temperature sensitive element 33 against fluctuations due to changes of load or ambient temperature. The oscillator 1 is of W-shape and is mounted at its centre of gravity 17 on a support 8 which carries a weight 9 for damping asymmetric vibrations of the oscillator tines. The tines carry a weight 2' and a permanent magnet 2 which cooperates with radial teeth 36 of the escape wheel 3. Adjustment of the clock rate is carried out by means of a screwed rod 35 carrying a magnetic member 34 to influence the magnet 2. For starting, a lever 21 is used to flick a gear 13 fixed to the shaft 6 and a sleeve portion 12' fixed to the rotor 4. An alternative arrangement is envisaged in which the spring 11 is between the escape wheel 3 and the output shaft 6.
