Abstract

1337929 Thermistors STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 4 May 1972 20836/72 Heading H1K A thermistor made of a mixture of NiO and Mn 3 O 4 thermally sintered comprises plural sets of interdigitated parallel plate electrodes 2, 3, interposed in the body of material 1 and alter. nately extending from opposed side faces covered with interconnecting layers 4 to which leads 5 are soldered (Figs, 1, 3). In fabrication a paste of thermistor material and an organic binder is screen printed on a smooth unabsorbent carrier, on which a metallization layer of Pt, Au-Pt, Pd or Pt-Pd is printed to define plural first electrodes (Fig. 6, not shown). A second thermistor material layer is printed on followed by a further plurality of printed electrodes interdigitated with the first (Fig. 7, not shown), and the process is repeated until a thermistor of the required size is built up, which is then diced into a plurality of chip units each with two interdigitated sets of electrodes. After thermal sintering the opposed edges to which the alternate electrodes extend are coated with a suitable noble metal to which leads are soldered.
