Abstract

1336781 Gymnastic mats T J WILLIAMS 9 June 1972 [17 June 1971] 28336/71 Heading A4S A gymnastic mat is assembled from a kit of parts which includes rectangular panels 10, 11 of polyurethane foam and cloths 18, 19, the panels having at corners on the lower surfaces, fastening strips 16, 17 which are provided with hook fastening elements for detachable engagement with the cloths which act as loop fastening elements. The panels may comprise more than one layer of foam and one or more stiffening layers in a fabric cover, the undersurface of each panel having a covering 15 impregnated so as to be non-slip. The cloths may consist of plies, edge-bound or bonded together and have a high-friction cover, to prevent slipping on floors, or press-studs, for attachment to walls. Three panels 12, 13, 14 are fastened in a stack by the cloth 19 detachably engaged by strips 16, 17 on panels 12, 14. Some of the strips 16, 17 may be stitched or secured by press studs to a rubberized undersheet 21 which is pegged to the ground for outdoor use.
