Abstract
1335981 Capacitors BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDERS CABLES Ltd 1 Sept 1971 [16 July 1970] 34589/70 Heading H1M Capacitor casing 2 has corrugations 11 which permit controlled expansion thereof in response to increased internal pressure, and the movement apart of the casing portions on either side of the corrugations is harnessed to sever frangible leads 4, 5 acting as cut-outs, each lead being so tightly looped at 9 as to weaken it there. Conductors 4, 5 may be part of the leads between terminals 3 and the capacitor electrodes, or a conductor may be connected to a second external contact where it is undesirable to open-circuit the capacitor. The capacitor body, and therefore the end of a frangible conductor secured to an electrode thereof, is fixed in position by insulating cap 6 and insulating disc 8 bearing against a further corrugation 10. Moulded plug 14 of polyethylene and polypropylene may have a discharge resistor 15 embedded in it.
