1335879 Lift truck attachments R E BARKER & CO Ltd 2 Feb 1972 [8 Feb 1971] 4117/71 Heading B8H An attachment for a lifting vehicle, e.g. a fork lift truck which provides side shift of the load engaging means thereon to either side of the truck comprises a rear frame 1 having members (4), Fig. 1 (not shown), for securing the attachment to the carriage plate of the lift truck, a midframe 2 hingedly mounted at 12, 16 to a carriage plate 15 which is mounted for movement along the rear frame 1, and a front plate 3 on which load handling forks (9) are mounted, the plate 3 being mounted on a carriage plate 82 for movement along the midframe 2. The midframe 2 is movable about hinges 12, 16 towards and away from the rear frame 1 by means of hydraulic rams 18, 19, pivotally connected to the carriage plate 15 and midframe 2 and its lateral movement along the rear frame 1 on the carriage plate 15 is effected by means of fixedly mounted rams 65, 67 having pulleys mounted on the free ends of their respective rods about which pulleys runs a chain 71 which is connected to the carriage plate 15. The front plate 3 is movable about hinges 80, 81 by means of hydraulic rams 85, 86 pivotally connected to the front plate 3 and to the carriage plate 82, the plate 82 being movable along the midframe 2 by means of a second pair of fixedly mounted rams 98, 99 which engage a chain 104 connected to the carriage 82. In operation of the device, a pivotal movement of the midframe 2 and thus the front plate 3 and the forks mounted thereon away from the rear frame 1, the carriage plate 15 simultaneously moves inwardly along the rear frame 1 thus maintaining the forks within the lateral sides of the attachment. Similarly, if side shift of the forks to the other side of the attachment is required pivotal movement of the front plate 3 away from the midframe 2 occurs simultaneously with lateral movement of the carriage plate 82 across the midframe 2. Such simultaneous movements are achieved by means of sequence valves (151-154), Fig. 9 (not shown), connected into supply conduits (145, 146) leading from the hydraulic system of the fork lift truck to the four pairs of rams referred to above, control over the supply of hydraulic fluid to the said rams being effected by means of a lever (141) and its associated push button (143).
