Abstract

1335500 Rotational casting of fibre-reinforced plastics M YAMASHITA 25 Feb 1972 [25 Feb 1971] 8897/72 Heading B5A Fibre-reinforced hollow bodies of synthetic resin are rotationally cast by first bonding the fibres together and then mixing them with the synthetic resin before introducing the mixture into a mould which rotates about two axes, e.g. a vertical and horizontal axis each rotating at 5 to 20 r.p.m. Glass strands may be bonded and then cut into short lengths before being mixed with an unsaturated polyester resin. The binder material exemplified is a polyester emulsion or unsaturated polyester resin applied by soaking or spraying, but the Specification states that other resins or natural pastes such as starch may be used, and that other synthetic or natural fibres may be used as reinforcement.
