Abstract

1335308 Seaming HOGLA Ltd 9 Nov 1971 [9 Nov 1970] 51950/71 Heading B5K [Also in Division B8] The tail-end of a web roll 6 is sealed to the body of the roll by means of a stripe 7 of adhesive, e.g. polyethylene which is applied in a pattern on the outside surface of the completed web-roll package, the pattern straddling the line where the free end of the tail meets the web-roll body. The pattern may be discontinuous and may be sinuous (as shown) or non-sinuous in shape (Figs. 1a to 1d, not shown). Apparatus for applying the stripe 7 comprises a reciprocating applicator head 5 associated with a conveyer 4 for moving the roll 6. The applicator may have more than one nozzle and the adhesive may be applied by any suitable method, e.g. by spraying, by forcible ejection &c.
