Abstract
1334066 Upsetting machines LANGENSTEIN & SCHEMANN AG 7 Dec 1970 [5 Dec 1969] 57957/70 Heading B3H An electric upsetting machine comprises an anvil electrode 15 and at least two pairs of clamping electrodes 7, 8 operating side-by-side for holding at least two workpieces 11, 12, Fig. 3, in parallel and a transformer 37, 38 for each pair of clamping electrodes. The clamping electrodes each have a jaw 9, 10, but a common jaw may be provided for the upper pair and the lower pair of clamping electrodes. The clamping electrodes 7, 8 are mounted on fluid-operated slides 1, 2. A pair of dies (13), 14, Fig. 2a (not shown), are mounted on the anvil electrode for die upsetting but a plate can be used to cover the dies for free upsetting. The anvil is mounted on a slide 20 normally locked by nuts 25 on a spindle 24. A cylinder piston unit 22 drives a block 26 with ejectors (27), (28), Fig. 2a (not shown), for the dies 13, 14. The upsetting device comprises a pair of piston-cylinder units in a casing 29, Fig. 1b, and a bar 31 on each piston 30. A spindle 33 extends through an extension 32 on the casing 29 for each piston and carries a nut 34 which engages the bar 31 to limit the rearward travel. Each piston carries a threaded spindle 35 whose position is adjustable by a nut 36. The current loop for each workpiece is from its transformer to one of a pair of contact plates 18, contact pieces 17, conductor 41, to the electrodes 7, 8 of one pair, along the workpiece to a common contact plate 16 and to the transformer. The upsetting is performed simultaneously on the workpieces which may be laterally transferred after a first upsetting for further upsetting in the next die set. The anvil slide is kept locked for die upsetting and released for free upsetting. The pressure in the upsetting cylinders is used to operate an hydraulic pressure switch for the heating current.
