Abstract
1333792 Mechanical switches SWF SPEZIALFABRIK FUER AUTOZUBEHOER GUSTAV RAU GmbH 13 May 1971 [26 June 1970] 14816/71 Heading H1N In an electric switch 21 for mounting on the steering column (not shown) of a motor vehicle in which the operating lever 10 is pivotable in a generally horizontal plane about pins 13 of a contact carrier 17 for sliding bridging contacts 23 over fixed contacts 22, the lever 10 is also pivotable upwards in the generally vertical plane on a pin 15 in a tapered recess 32 of the carrier 17 whereby the end of the lever 10 depresses a pin 11 for actuating further contacts 25, 26 as for operating a horn, an optical warning system or brief operation of the windscreen wipers. The end of the lever 10 is recessed for carrying a spring-loaded detent 14 engageable with a detent cam 27 operating to restore the lever 10 to its original position. The lever 10 may also be pivoted downwards in a generally vertical direction about the detent 14 to a position II, the pin 13 being movable downwards in guides 12 of the recessed carrier 17 whereby the lever 10 depresses a further pin 16 for actuating further contacts (not shown) or a valve 28 as for a windscreen washer installation. The guides 12 are so shaped that depression of the lever 10 also depresses the detent 14 whereby the pins 13 are urged upwards in the guides 12 to restore the lever 10 to its normal position 0. Both the detent 27 and the guides 12 may be shaped so that the lever 10 is held set in its operated positions and is not self-restoring as in the arrangement shown.
