Abstract
1333782 Pistons C B DE CARBON 26 Oct 1970 [27 Oct 1969] 50810/70 Heading F2T A separator piston 2 for a shock-absorber is adapted to move within a cylinder 1 under the action of a pressure difference and comprises a resilient element (e.g. of rubber) having one or more sealing beads 2b, Fig. 2, and a metal frame 3 which assists in guiding the piston. As shown, a steel frame 3 is moulded into the rubber element and during operation the head 2a of the piston is deformed by the pressure difference to increase the sealing tightness of the bead 2b. In Fig. 5 the frame 3 is cup-shaped and the grooves 2<SP>11</SP>b between the sealing and guiding beads 2<SP>11</SP>a may be filled with grease. In another embodiment, the rubber covers the end face of the cupshaped frame and in a further embodiment, the frame is an aluminium alloy ring which is mounted around the skirt portion of the piston either after or during the moulding operation.
