Abstract

1333159 Orienting cylindrical articles TANGEN DRIVES Inc 28 Oct 1971 [21 May 1971] 50227/71 Heading B8S Cylindrical articles, whose length exceeds their diameter, are fed by a rotary bowl feeder 10, Fig. 1, to a portion 40 Fig. 11, of a shoot, which supports articles oriented with their long axes vertical by means of guides 25, 45, and discharges the incorrectly oriented articles through an orifice 50. As the articles approach the shoot, any that are tilted, Fig. 6, are turned to a vertical position by a finger 30. Subsequently the articles move up a ramp 25, Fig. 4, and any that are piled up are dislodged by a member 28 and an air jet 29. A discharge air jet 51 is provided in the orienting portion 40 of the shoot. The articles are turned into a rolling position by a finger 52, Fig. 12, which guides the articles into a tilted portion 16 of the shoot.
